1. Summary
You can delete your Equalize account in the app.
You can also request help with account deletion by contacting us at:
hello@equalizeapp.com
When you delete your account, Equalize will remove or anonymise personal information associated with your account, subject to the limits explained in this policy.
Because Equalize is a shared household app, some historical household records may remain available to other household members where needed to preserve the household's shared history.
2. How to delete your account in the app
To delete your Equalize account:
- Open the Equalize app.
- Go to your profile or account settings.
- Select the account deletion option.
- Follow the confirmation steps shown in the app.
Account deletion is intended to be permanent.
You should only delete your account if you are sure you no longer want to use Equalize.
3. Requesting deletion by email
If you cannot access the app or need help, you can request account deletion by emailing:
hello@equalizeapp.com
Please contact us from the email address linked to your Equalize account where possible.
We may need to verify your identity before actioning a deletion request.
4. What is deleted when you delete your account
When you delete your Equalize account, we will delete or remove personal account information associated with your account.
This may include:
- your Equalize account;
- your authentication profile;
- your email address;
- your display name;
- your custom initials;
- your user profile document;
- device notification tokens linked to your user profile;
- your active household membership;
- your active chore assignments;
- your active references in household split settings or joint contribution settings.
This means you should no longer be able to sign in to Equalize using that account.
5. Shared household records that may remain
Equalize is designed for shared household use.
When household members use Equalize together, they create shared records that may be needed by the rest of the household.
For that reason, deleting your account does not automatically delete all historical household records that involve you.
Shared household records that may remain include:
- expenses;
- balances;
- transfers;
- settlement records;
- Equalize adjustments;
- chore completions;
- shopping sessions;
- household activity history;
- Day-7 reviews;
- monthly reports;
- records needed to preserve household calculations or timelines.
These records may remain because other household members may need them to understand historical expenses, balances, chores, reports or household activity.
6. How your identity appears after deletion
After your account is deleted, Equalize will remove or anonymise personal identifiers where appropriate.
For example, your name may be replaced with wording such as:
- "Former household member"
- "Deleted member"
Some historical records may retain limited technical references where needed to preserve household history, calculations, audit trails, security, fraud prevention, billing, support or legal records.
Where we retain shared household records, we aim to minimise the personal information attached to those records.
7. 60-day deletion and retention period
Our standard deletion and retention review period is 60 days.
During this period, we may retain limited information where needed to:
- complete deletion or anonymisation processes;
- handle support requests;
- investigate accidental deletion issues;
- deal with billing or subscription issues;
- protect against fraud, misuse or unauthorised access;
- comply with legal, tax, accounting or regulatory obligations;
- resolve disputes or legal claims.
After this period, we will delete, anonymise or minimise personal information associated with your deleted account unless we need to retain certain information for legitimate legal, security, fraud prevention, billing, accounting or dispute-resolution reasons.
8. Backups, logs and cached data
Some information may remain temporarily in backups, logs or cached systems after account deletion.
This data will be deleted, overwritten or made inaccessible through normal retention and backup cycles.
Equalize may also cache some app data on your device so the app can load faster and work reliably.
You can remove locally cached app data by signing out, uninstalling the app, or using your device's app storage controls.
9. Push notifications after deletion
When your user profile is deleted, device notification tokens stored with that profile should also be removed.
However, if a device, app store, Firebase service or notification system has a stale token, it may take time for all notification systems to stop attempting delivery.
If you continue receiving notifications after deleting your account, you can disable Equalize notifications in your device settings and contact us at:
hello@equalizeapp.com
10. Subscriptions must be cancelled separately
Deleting your Equalize account does not necessarily cancel your app store subscription.
If you purchased a subscription through Google Play or the Apple App Store, you should cancel the subscription through the relevant app store.
This is important because app store billing is managed by the app store, not directly by Equalize.
You are responsible for cancelling your subscription if you do not want future renewals.
11. Leaving a household is different from deleting your account
Leaving a household does not delete your Equalize account.
If you leave a household:
- you should no longer have access to that household's current data;
- your account may remain active;
- you may be able to join or create another household;
- the household may retain historical records from the time you were a member.
If you want to delete your Equalize account entirely, you must use the account deletion option or contact us.
12. Deleting the app is not the same as deleting your account
Uninstalling or deleting the Equalize app from your device does not automatically delete your Equalize account.
It also does not automatically cancel your subscription.
To delete your account, use the account deletion option inside the app or contact us at:
hello@equalizeapp.com
To cancel your subscription, use the relevant app store subscription management process.
13. Data we may retain for legal or safety reasons
We may retain limited information where necessary for legitimate reasons, including:
- legal obligations;
- tax or accounting records;
- billing and subscription records;
- fraud prevention;
- security investigations;
- misuse prevention;
- dispute resolution;
- enforcing our Terms & Conditions;
- responding to lawful requests.
Where possible, we will minimise the information retained.
14. Google, Apple and third-party accounts
If you used Google Sign-In or Sign in with Apple to access Equalize, deleting your Equalize account deletes your Equalize account data as described in this policy.
It does not delete your Google account, Apple ID or app store account.
You may also be able to manage connected apps or sign-in permissions through your Google or Apple account settings.
