Trust Principles

Last updated: 29 June 2026

Equalize is built to help households share responsibilities more fairly.

That means trust matters.

Households may use Equalize to organise chores, shopping, shared expenses, balances, reports and everyday household activity. We understand that this information can feel personal, even when it is ordinary household information.

These principles explain how we aim to treat your data and your household.

Equalize is operated by Duncan Scott trading as Jackdaw Britannia Enterprises, a sole trader business based in the United Kingdom.

1. Your household belongs to you

Equalize is here to help your household organise itself.

We do not own your household relationships, your responsibilities, your routines or your decisions.

The information you enter into Equalize should help your household, not be used against you.

2. Equalize is funded primarily by subscriptions

Equalize is designed as a paid subscription service.

We believe the cleanest business model is simple: users pay for a useful service.

That means we do not need to build Equalize around intrusive advertising or selling user data.

3. We do not sell personal information

We do not sell your personal information.

We do not sell names, email addresses, user profiles, account details, device identifiers or household membership information to advertisers, data brokers or other third parties.

4. We do not sell household-level data

We do not sell household-level data.

That means we do not sell your household's chores, shopping lists, expenses, balances, reports, activity history or routines to advertisers, data brokers or other third parties.

5. Anonymous insights only

Equalize may use anonymous and aggregated information to understand household trends and improve the app.

We may also share general household insights, such as common chore patterns or household organisation trends.

These insights are designed so that individual users, households and household members cannot be identified.

We publish trends, not household records.

6. We collect only what we need

Equalize should collect information for a clear reason.

For example, we need account information to let you sign in, household information to let members share tasks, and app data to provide chores, shopping, expense, report and notification features.

We do not want to collect unnecessary information just because we can.

7. We design for shared households

Equalize is different from a private notes app because household members share information with each other.

We aim to make this clear.

When you join a household, relevant household information may be visible to other members of that household.

You should only join households with people you trust.

8. We preserve household history carefully

Shared households often need historical records to remain useful.

For example, deleting one member's account should not automatically destroy the household's expense history, chore history, reports or balances for everyone else.

Where shared records need to remain, we aim to remove or anonymise personal identifiers where appropriate.

9. We are careful with household finances

Equalize may help households record shared expenses, balances and transfers.

But Equalize is not a bank, payment provider, accountant, tax adviser or financial adviser.

The app is a tool to help households organise information. Users remain responsible for checking entries, payments, balances and decisions.

10. We protect children and teenagers

Equalize is not intended for children under 13.

Teenagers aged 13 to 17 may use Equalize only with the involvement and permission of a parent or guardian.

Adults remain responsible for household ownership, subscriptions and supervision.

11. We use service providers to run the app

Equalize relies on trusted service providers to operate the app, such as Firebase, Google Cloud, Google Play and Apple services.

These services help us provide authentication, secure data storage, crash reporting, push notifications, app distribution and subscription billing.

We use these services to operate Equalize, not to sell your household data.

12. We explain important changes

If we make significant changes to how Equalize uses data, subscriptions or household information, we will take reasonable steps to explain those changes.

Where required by law, we will ask for consent before applying material changes.

13. We build with privacy in mind

Privacy should not be an afterthought.

When we design new features, we aim to consider:

  • what data is needed;
  • who can see it;
  • how long it should be kept;
  • whether it can be anonymised;
  • whether users would reasonably expect it;
  • whether it strengthens or weakens trust.

14. Our guiding principle

Equalize is built to help households work better.

We should use data to improve the product, not exploit the people using it.

Our core position is simple:

Equalize is funded by its customers, not by selling their household data.

15. Related policies

These Trust Principles should be read alongside:

  • our Privacy Policy;
  • our Terms & Conditions;
  • our Account & Data Deletion Policy;
  • our Equalize Insights Policy.

If there is any difference between these Trust Principles and the legal policies, the legal policies take priority.
